Novak Djokovic knew it was going to hard to climb Mount Federer to capture his first Grand Slam Championship. It was going to be so tough that he had backup in his box with Maria Sharapova and Robert DeNiro cheering for him. Even a Hollywood Superstar and an excessively grunting early-round loser couldn’t help him tonight as Darth Federer won in 3 tight sets.

The score read 7-6 (4), 7-6(2), 6-4 but Djokovic, the Joker, could have easily been up 2 sets to none. Djokovic squandered 5 set points in the first set and two set points in the second set. You can’t let those opportunities slip you by especially against the best player in the world.
The true grit of a champion, Federer really raised his game when it counted. After surviving the second set point in the 2nd set, Federer had 7 straight first serves to save him out of danger. In the third set with the score at 2-2 with Federer serving, he was down Love-40. Again, Federer was able to survive the game with a win with tough serving and a strong ground game. Federer pounces like a tiger and moves like a cheetah. He’s also got 9 lives like a cat to save him from near-death situations!

Djokovic is really good. I think he will move to the number two spot by the end of the year. He’s only 20 years old so he’s got a long road ahead of him to excel.

Federer was awarded the winner’s trophy and the $1.4 million dollar winner’s cheque. He also received a $1 million dollar bonus from obtaining the most points from the US Open series events. To add to the money, Lexus, the official car of the US Open awarded Federer the keys to the 2008 IS-F car. The IS350 is a beautiful car while the IS-F is the IS350’s sibling on steroids.
