Los Angeles Lakers coach, Phil Jackson, received a reprimand from the league office of the National Basketball Association for comments following a loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
“We call this a ‘Brokeback Mountain’ game, because there’s so much penetration and kickouts,” Jackson said. “It was one of those games.”
“But in retrospect, it wasn’t really funny,” Jackson said before the Lakers played Houston on Wednesday night. “When you take it out of context, it wasn’t funny. It was a poor attempt at humor and I deserved to be reprimanded by the NBA.”
Still, Jackson couldn’t resist making another joke as he apologized.
“If I’ve offended any horses, Texans, cowboys or gays, I apologize,” Jackson said.
It was a funny comment by Jackson. It’s obviously not politically correct but in this new-age world of sensitivity where people have to tread on pins and needles with their comments, it was deemed unacceptable. Jackson apologized to the media even though I’m sure he meant those comments and I’m sure he was forced to apologized. Isn’t one aspect of humour the fact that they are out of the norm and a bit out of line?
“I’m not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with it!”

“After Phil Jackson’s comments, I need to be held.”
