The headlines will read: Darth Federer versus A-Rod. Although A-Rod was also decked out in all black, there’s only one Darth Federer. The headlines could have read “Ali versus Frazier” because you had two of the game’s biggest heavyweights in a primetime television showdown in high-definition (where available). Roger Federer faced Andy Roddick in an epic quarterfinals match at the US Open to a sold-out place with over 23000 enthusiastic fans. It could have been another so called “epic” match but when you have Andre Agassi in the commentator’s booth, you know it’s a match for the ages. After two hard fought tie-break sets and a convincing third set, Federer raised in arms in victory again. 7-6 (5), 7-6(4), 6-2

Roddick has the best serve in the history of the game. No, that’s not just my opinion but the opinion of every radar gun that’s been used at a tennis match. He had serves that were consistently in the 140s miles per hour. The fastest serve was at 146 mph! Given that his serve is the biggest and fastest ever, the more surprising statistic was that Federer out-aced Roddick 15 to 14 in the match.

Andre Agassi: Andy’s serve is the biggest I’ve ever faced. You could tell someone where the serve will be and it’s still hard to get the serve back.”

Federe was able to neutralize the serve and block it back into play. Once the baseline rallies begin, no one is as accomplished and dominating as Federer. He even had a handful of second-serve aces when Roddick tried to anticipate the serve.

Roddick’s coach is legendary player is Jimmy Connors. In line with his age-long badboy image, he was observed covering his mouth and giving Roddick illegal coaching tips, pointers, and encouragements on multiple occasions.

I’ll admit that I dislike Roddick….a lot. I think he’s a punk and an arrogant jerk. He’s got a real potty mouth to him and you can tell he’s not very bright. Having said that, I have to give him credit for tonight’s game because he was good. He was very good tonight but he’s played the best ever. That’s the awesome thing about tennis is that you have to just be better than your opponent on that particular day to win the match. As good as he was, he was not better than the great Darth Federer

Agassi: “When a player is more favored to win 4 Grand Slams in a year more than 2 Grand Slams in a year, it’s a testament of how good he is.”
