Darth Federer aka Roger Federer aka the world’s best tennis player takes to the court under the lights again tonight at the US Open. It’s the round of 16 against tough-serving Feliciano Lopez of Spain. Lopez is a lefty with a wicked serve that has taken some sets off Federer in the past. However, Lopez has a perfect 0-4 winless record against Federer so he’s hoping for a miracle to even stand a chance.
Lopez:

“It’s an honor to play in the round of 16 against the best player in the world. He’s got every shot in the game.”

Post game comments: Well, it was scary for the first two sets because Lopez was on fire. Lopez is now 0-5 with Federer. Tonight’s final score was 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4. It’s gotta be disheartening for Lopez when he realized that he’s played the best tennis in his life for two sets and it was only tied up. Federer really turned up the heat after two sets and steam-rolled Lopez for the rest of the match with dazzling winners and impeccable defense. One thing that I noticed was that serve placement is much more important than serve speed. Lopez was able to get a lot aces because he was serving really close to the lines. His serves are fast but they aren’t the fastest in the men’s tour like Andy Roddick’s. Federer has more troubles with Lopez’s serve than Roddick’s serve. Keep your schedules free for Wednesday night because it’s going to be a heavyweight clash between Federer and Roddick under the lights in a quarterfinal match-up. Hopefully Darth Federer will have the Force with him right from the start of the match.
