World famous magician and illusionist David Copperfield is facing his toughest escape ever: the legal system! It is alleged that Copperfield “forced himself” on an unnamed woman. FBI agents raided Copperfield’s warehouse in Las Vegas and seized a computer hard drive, memory chip, and two million dollars in cash! Why would anyone store two million in cash at their warehouse?! Maybe he needed the money for a quick getaway? (Only an opinion, of course.) If the allegations against him are false, then they should name his accuser and drag her through the mud. If Copperfield is found guilty, he should pay the crime.
Cancelled Shows
Because of the raid, Copperfield has canceled his magic shows in south-east Asia. Although the promoters stand to lose money for advertisements and promotions, the ticket-holders are actually quite lucky to have the cancellation and their money back. I went to Copperfield’s show in Las Vegas recently at the MGM Grand and it was one of the worst shows I have ever seen in my life.
Look into my eyes and fall asleep…..while I escape my charges:

Angry and Sad
I’ve been a die-hard Copperfield fan since he began airing yearly specials on CBS over 15 years ago. I’ve watched every one of his televised shows and I have seen all but one of his shows in Vancouver.
David Copperfield. The name evokes the image of a world famous magician, consummate artist and performer, master illusionist, the list goes on and on. Night after night, David Copperfield brings down the house in places all around the world.
So, of course I was expecting nothing less when I went to see him at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. However, instead of bringing down the house, he brought something else down! Imagine my disappointment, along with the rest of the audience, when from the very first act, he bombed! In his famous Man versus Steel illusion, Copperfield was supposed to emerge from beneath a solid panel of steel. The trick went ahead like planned, the music was suspenseful and the crowd was engaged. However for whatever reason, he wasn’t able to do it. Instead, he simply rolled off the platform, came around to the front of the stage, and bowed. People didn’t know whether to clap or cry! It was the most awkward thing I’ve ever seen. And then it simply went downhill from there. At the very beginning of the show, he hyped the grand illusion of the night about being able to close your eyes and reopen them and be anywhere in the world. I have to admit that it’s a pretty good teaser for the final grand illusion but he didn’t even perform the trick! How lame is that?! My guess is that he sensed the anger and frustration of the audience and just wanted to bail out of there as soon as possible.
I’ll need my legs this time to run away from the law:

Credibility Once Lost is Gone Forever
In my eyes, not only did he lost his credibility, but more important than that, his connection with the audience. Applause was polite at best. Copperfield appeared to just go through the motions as he performed his tried and true, but old acts. His attitude seemed to convey that he really didn’t care. There was no excitement, no thrills! It was basically boring, but also a little sad. Sad to see a man so talented and famous who was on auto pilot the whole time, who wanted to get the show over with, collect the thousands he makes every night, and get the hell out of there. At the end of the short hour show, all I really wanted was my money and my time back…..but I got neither! After all, when you spend $100, which isn’t cheap by any means, you expect something of value in return. But at the end of the day, he lost more than one loyal fan, he lost his reputation.
