Some are pegging tomorrow’s Men’s 2007 US Open finals as the heir apparent versus the reigning king. Novak Djokovic is only 20 years old and is already number three in the world while Roger Federer is peaking at 26 years old has been the number one player in the world for a record amount of time. Federer owns an impressive a 4-1 head-to-head record against Djokovic but he did lose the last time they played a few weeks ago in Montreal, Canada. I watched the match in Montreal and it was filled with errors and uncharacteristic decisions by Federer. Hopefully there won’t be a repeat of that performance tomorrow and I don’t think there will because Federer is a machine. He is a cyborg that can adapt and change to weather conditions and opponent strategies.

The best ever?

Big bucks for Fedex if he wins

Roger Federer is the winner of the US Open Summer series that awards points for the hardcourt summer tournaments leading up to the US Open. The top point earner will receive a one million dollar bonus for winning the US Open. That means that if Federer wins the title tomorrow, he will pocket a cool $2.4 million bucks for two weeks of work. $2.4 million can buy a lot of Prada suits, Rolex watches, or another residence in Dubai for the Federer clan. Prize money is nice but I’m sure it’s the farthest from Federer’s mind. He’s playing for the record books and rewriting history because financial security is already guaranteed for him. Even if he never picks up another racquet again on the tour, Wilson Sports pays him $2 million a year FOR LIFE for using their products!

Lots of Pressure for Djokovic to Win

Novak Djokovic is on everyone’s radar now so he’s expected to perform well. He will be a big underdog in the finals which may take less pressure off him but it will be his first ever Grand Slam final so the nerves and butterflies will present in his stomach. Federer will come ready for the first point unlike Montreal when he was sloppy and error-proned. Djokovic is fit but he can’t be at 100% optimal playing condition because he’s endured tough matches at the Open. He had a 5-hour marathon gruelling match in the 2nd round against Radek Stepanek and experienced headaches in today’s semi-final match with David Ferrer.

Prediction for the Finals

Federer has a 27 consecutive winning streak at the US Open and is the currently 3-time US Open champion. Anyone would be silly to not pick him to win again tomorrow. Yes, all streaks do come to an end but I don’t think that will happen tomorrow in the US Open finals. Federer in 4 tough sets!

Beautiful one-handed backhand from Federer:
