Cloak

I’m sure everyone has heard about the team of scientists that have been developing an invisibility cloak like the one used by Harry Potter. This is pretty amazing that they are undertaking such a seemingly impossible task. What I don’t understand is shouldn’t this be a top secret and highly classified mission? This has military applications written all over and this would give new meaning to covert operation. Stealth military personnel would be able to infiltrate enemy territory and gain the upper hand in all types of scenarios. They are even talking about being able to conceal objects as large as an airplane from sight. As Robin would say, “Holy out of sight, out of mind Batman!” The theory behind the invisibility cloak has to do with bending light around an object to make it appear invisible. James Bond’s Aston Martin in “Die Another Day” was also able to bend light using the same theory as the invisible cloak. Physicists from Purdue University are tackling the project right now and it will still be years until a working prototype is ready for testing. The work and design will be published in this month’s journal of Nature Photonics.
