He’s the Tiger Woods of the eating world. He’s also the A-Rod of food gluttony and no one even caught him with a blond mistress in a strip bar! Takeru Kobayashi has been dominating the sport of competitive eating for over six years but has he met his match?!
Kobayashi’s hot dog world record of 53.75 buns & wieners in 12 minutes was destroyed this weekend by Joey Chestnut from San Jose. Chestnut managed to inhale 59.5 of them in the Southwest Regional Hot Dog Eating Championship. It’s not a complete surprise of his accomplishment though because Chestnut managed a very respectable 2nd place showing at last year’s championship.
You’d think the reigning eating champion is morbidly obese but Kobayashi is fit and ripped:

I don’t think I’ve eaten 59 hotdogs in the past few years so I can’t even imagine what it’s like to eat 59 of them in 12 minutes. That translates to one hotdog every 12.2 seconds!!!
Kobayashi is undefeated in eating competitions on American soil. But the possibility of a Chestnut upset is stirring curiosity and interest at this year’s championship.
What did Chestnut win from his victorious eat-a-thon? He merely won a free trip to New York, a year’s supply of hotdogs, and a $250 gift certificate. However, eternal bragging rights belong to him and you can’t put a price tag on that!
