Although he’s only in practice mode, it’s still amazing to observe such relaxed and perfect strokes from Roger Federer. Federer uses the smallest racquet head of any player in the modern game beside from Pete Sampras. His stick is only 90 square inches while Sampras wielded an 85 square inch frame. I can tell you that it’s hard enough to hit the ball in the sweet spot with a 102 square inch let alone one that is smaller, heavier and way more demanding. Racquet-head speed is the key to generating power and control with Federer’s Wilson racquet but unfortunately for most of us, we don’t have his special skills. The sound that comes off each impact is equally impressive as is Federer’s stroke. It makes me appreciate the sport of tennis more each time I view this clip.
