I guess it was bound to happen, I just didn’t think it would take so soon. The Apple iPhone has been hacked by a 17 year old New Jersey teen and he’s already selling it on eBay. The listing doesn’t end until Aug. 30 but it’s already at $2175.00 USD.
It’s a bit funny that the teen, George Hotz, is claiming that he doesn’t want people to make money off the unlocking yet he’s trying to cash in on it himself:
“That’s exactly, like, what I don’t want,” Hotz said. “I don’t want people making money off this.”
It takes Hotz around 2 hours to perform his hack which involves software and soldering.
I was in Las Vegas this week and got my first chance to hold an iPhone in my hands. I will never buy one even if it becomes available in Canada but it’s a pretty cool device. The GUI is very nice and it seems fool-proof to use.
I wonder what the final price will be on eBay. $5000? $6000? Whatever the price, gotta love capitalism.
