Message to movie producers: “movies these days are way too long!”
I haven’t seen too many movies yet this summer but I did see Spider-Man 3 and even though it shattered records right and left, I thought it was the worst out of the 3 Spidey movies. There were many good action scenes and amazing special effects but it was way too long. I don’t know the exact runtime of the movie but it was approximately 2.5 hours. There were many scenes that weren’t necessary and the ending scene with Sandman was ridiculous. Spider-man 3 could have easily been broken into two movies with full plots and more detailed scenes with Venom. Sandman wasn’t even necessary for the movie.
Most movies theses days easily average over 2 hours of runtime. When you add in the 20 minutes of commercials and trailers, a movie can take up an entire afternoon or evening!
Ticket prices are charged per admission, not by length of movie so note to Hollywood: if you want the die-hard fans to watcher multiple viewings of the same movie, DO NOT make the movie so long. There are exceptions to every rule so movies like Lord of the Rings are justifiable in their length but the Spider-man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc can easily shave 30-45 mins from their runtime and actually improve on the quality of the movie viewing experience.

1Pirates 3 was way, waaaaaaaay too long. I’m usually okay with movies that are a little longer so long as it’s justified and/or they keep me entertained for all three hours. Pirates didn’t do that.
