Even though there’s more than 7 weeks left until the New Year, I have already decided on my New Year’s Resolution for 2008. My New Year’s resolution isn’t original or unique but it’s something that I need to accomplish to compete in tennis. It’s embarrassing to get beaten by a 15 year old high-school student every week even if he’s of national caliber. As a result, I am going to get really fit in the new year by working-out like a mad-man at least six times a week. I’m not out of shape or fat but I’m not extremely fit either.
Why Now?
The problem why most resolutions do not last or get accomplished is they are sudden promises by people to change without much thought or plan. I’ve been thinking about my fitness regiment for a while now but it’s only in the planning stages. I still do my weights, cardio, and tennis on a weekly basis but I’ll be taking it up a few gears in January of 2008. I could start right now on my hard-core lifestyle but realistically, I don’t think I can maintain it throughout December with the extra eating and weakened inhibitions. Along with working-out like crazy, my diet will be radically different as well in the New Year. I’ll still eat sushi but there won’t be any deep fried dishes and starchy, white rice will be reduced to a minimum. Anyone can work-out intensively and eat right for a week but it’s the consistency that will show results. That is why I can’t really start right now because I won’t be able to be consistent with it close to Christmas, especially since I’m planning on a week-long trip to San Francisco.

How?
Now that you what I will be hoping to accomplish, the next question you have is how I will accomplish my goals given that I work full-time. The only think I care about will be “No Pain, No Gain.” It’s too hard to work-out hard after work so I will complete my work-out first thing in the morning.
Tentative weekday schedule:
Wake-up at 05:30
Workout from 06:00 – 0:700
Breakfast, shower, leave for work at 08:00
Power-nap for 15 minutes at work during lunch
Bedtime by 10:30
If I can stick to this schedule, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I will see dramatic results in 3-4 months. Wish me luck in January!
