In school, they cram it down your throat that there’s no such thing as a stupid question. Teachers and professors claim that, “only the questions not asked are stupid.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t apply to the real world. You can ask as many retarded questions as you like in class lectures because you are anonymous and let’s face it, lots of students are retarded these days, but try asking stupid questions in the office and you are likely to never be promoted or given performance bonuses. If you are starting out in a new job, asking a stupid enough question can get you fired if you are still on probation. Work involves a lot of office politics and ass-kissing. It also involves self-promotion and protecting your own ass so when something goes wrong, there’s always a scapegoat and who better to blame than the guy that asks the stupid questions during meetings? Whether your probationary period is 3 months or 12 months, keep your mouth shut of retarded questions and be resourceful to find out stuff on your own.
Boy, can you tell that I’m on probation right now? Start asking the dumb questions when you in management. That’s usually how it works.
