News flash to the Spurs: your pseudo dynasty is able to be numbered. 7 time NBA all-star Grant Hill just signed a two-year deal with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are my favorite team because Steve Nash rocks. I’ve been a fan of Steve Nash since his days in high-school with the St. Michael’s University in Victoria, BC. They have been close to reaching the NBA finals on a few occasions but have encountered a strong team from Texas each time. One could argue that they should have won the series this year against the Spurs if bad luck wasn’t on their side. i.e. Nash couldn’t finish game one because of a bleeding nose, Amare was unjustly suspended for game 5 of the series that the Suns lost. Oh well, the past is the past and all we can do is look forward to the present and future. I’m not religious at all but there’s a saying that goes: “Think Back, Move Forward, It’s Time” that applies to life and to the Suns. They have remembered their past and now they are planning for their future because it’s time to bring home a championship to Phoenix.
Grant Hill’s two-year deal with Phoenix is for pennies considering that he’s just finished a seven-year, $93 million dollar contract with the Orlando Magic. It’s not about the money when you have a lot of wealth already, it’s all about winning. According to Hill’s agent, “There’s no question he could’ve gotten considerably more money elsewhere, but that was not the principle. I think the most important factor for him was the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a team competing for the championship.”
The Suns originally tried to land Kevin Garnett but that deal died at the table because the teams couldn’t agree on all the players involved. It’s actually a blessing in disguise because although Garnett is also a superstar, the Suns would have sacrificed Amare to land Garnett.
Nash, Hill, Marion, Stoudemire…….I’m drooling already!
All four are all-stars and they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the West when the NBA season starts up in October!
