Another week of the NFL is done and once again, the Seattle Seahawks lost in humiliating fashion. It’s quite hard to believe that this team has the 2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander and a supposedly juggernaut offence lead by Matt Hasselbeck. Although they started the season with high hopes and a respectable 3-1 record, the last two games and losses have really dampened their hopes as a Superbowl contender.

Shaun Alexander Sucks
When the Seahawks showed the money to Shaun Alexander for him to re-sign with them after his career-best MVP season, they really signed their death wish because Shaun Alexander sucks. A true running-back great is someone who can make yards out of nothing on his own. Alexander completely relies on the offensive line to open up holes for him and when there isn’t any, he just cowers like a runt for the opposing team to sack. When you talk about greats of the past like Eric Dickerson and Walter Payton, I get amazed by their strength, quickness, and agility. They really do make things happen out of thin air. Just when you think they will be sack for a lost, they dodge tackles and out-run their opponents for sizable yard gains. I have never seen more of a wimp and coward as someone like Shaun Alexander. He’s always hurt and can’t play through the pain. I can’t even remember how many games he missed last season from pseudo injuries and he’s playing hurt again this season. You can’t cut this guy any slack because he’s their highest paid player yet he does not produce results when needed. Seattle should really cut their losses and send this chump off their roster. If anything, I would like to see him grind for his team and teammates yet all you see from him is his corny grin even when he sucks and the team loses. Yes, he’s been grinning ever since signing the big contract and getting overpaid for very little work. Seattle made a huge mistake in keeping Shaun Alexander rather than guard Steve Hutchinson who deserved the big bucks from Seahawks owner, Paul Allen.

Seahawks in a Dilemma
It’s nearly impossible to sit out your top paid player even if he royally sucks like Alexander. It’s also impossible to trade him and get fair value because of his high salary. The Seahawks are really in a bind because of Alexander. Because of him, their running game does not exists so quarterback Hasselbeck is forced to win games through the passing game. Throws are often forced or rushed because defenders know the Seahawks won’t run as often as they would like. If I were Seattle’s GM, I would sit out Alexander for a few games and embarrass him in front of everyone. Maybe that will knock some sense into him to be a man and hopefully that will knock the dumb grin off his face.

From Bill Simmons of ESPN:

As a longtime, die-hard ‘Hawks fan, I’m telling you, the problem is Shaun Alexander. Think about how important RBs have been to ‘pure’ West Coast offenses — ideally, they block, catch passes and get gritty yards. Shaun does none of those things, and you can’t use the broken hand as an excuse because he’s been this way since Day 1. He can’t catch, won’t block and (watch this one closely next time you watch them play) if he doesn’t smell a huge gain, he turns south and sits down. Literally, he tries backing into the defenders and then just takes a squat. It’s pitiful. Any real Hawks fan will tell you that Shaun’s big year in 2005 was nothing more than the product of Jones, Hutchinson and Strong blocking, as well as Hasselbeck making smart audibles.
