What can you say about Steve Nash that hasn’t been said already? He’s white, from Canada, and small. Any one of those traits represents a menacing obstacle to make it the international stage of the elite in basketball but all 3 combined makes it nearly impossible to overcome. Not only did Nash overcome the odds, he’s the reining two-time NBA most valuable player. He joined Hall of Famer Magic Johnson as the only point guards in league history to capture multiple MVP trophies and became one of only nine players to win the award in consecutive seasons. Notable names to win the MVP in straight years include the likes of Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, and other hall of famers. Voting has already ended for the 2006-07 MVP and it will be announced in a few weeks but everyone is saying that Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki will be the winner. Compared to last year’s stats when Nash won his second MVP, his numbers are just as impressive. The MVP award is given to the player that is the most valuable to his team. Although Nowitzki is an amazing player with impressive stats, if you take Nash and Nowitzki from their respective teams, Dallas can still do well while Phoenix will suffer without Nash. This exemplifies the MVP that he is the most valuable to his team.
Guts and glory can be summed up in a picture:
