Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson is the person in charge of handing down fines and suspensions for the NBA. I personally blame him for destroying the Vancouver Grizzlies basketball team when he was their general manager and causing their eventual move to Memphis. One of his bonehead moves involved drafting Bryant “Big Country” Reeves and making him their franchise player. He passed up on a Canadian kid named, Steve Nash because he said that Nash wasn’t an NBA caliber player. Fast forward to the present: Steve Nash is a two-time NBA MVP and a future hall of famer while Reeves was one of the laziest players to ever play in the NBA. Yes, hindsight is always 20/20 but a general manager is supposed to have the ability to see the future and justify his actions. Big Country Reeves arrived to camp grossly overweight and eventually retired due to chronic back pain. It blows my mind how someone can do a horrible job and be considered for another high-ranking executive job. This is Stu Jackson’s legacy.

Again, fast forward to the present and Jackson is still executing bonehead moves.
From wikipedia: When Robert Horry body checked Steve Nash into the scorer’s table in the final seconds of a 2007 playoff game, he chose to suspend Horry, a bench player, for two games for attempting to injure Phoenix’s most important starter. In addition, he suspended the Sun’s all-NBA center, Amare Stoudemire, and key backup, Boris Diaw, for taking several steps away from the bench and toward Nash as he lay prone and unmoving on the floor following the foul. The result: a bench player can choose to sit for two games for a chance to injure their opponent’s best player, and perhaps sucker other players into attempting to protect and help their apparently injured teammate for additional suspensions. Stu Jackson has again confirmed thug ball as a viable and attractive option for NBA GMs and coaches.
