As Barry Bonds inches closer to Hank Aaron’s all-time home-run record, the question on people’s mind is WHO CARES?! Baseball fans in the Bay Area are the only ones who don’t hate Bonds and cheer for him. If the “clear” and the “cream” are not allegedly performance enhancing drugs, then why isn’t BALCO products stocked at every nutrition/supplement store in the world? Hell, BALCO would be publicly traded and a major component on the Dow Jones Industrial Average from all the legal sales of its product. Back to reality now, BALCO no longer exists and their founder is under investigation by federal prosecutors. It still takes amazing hand-eye coordination to hit a home-run in baseball and Bonds was able to do since the beginning. He had at least 50lbs less muscle mass as a rookie compared to now. The difference with taking steroids is that it allows a person to recover much faster from aches and pains that is associated with professional sports. Also, it allows someone to maintain their fast bat speed to muscle pitches over the ball park. No player has been able to improve their home run success and slugging percentage in their mid 30s and into their early 40s like Bonds.
Check out what he looked like in his early days as a Pittsburgh Pirates:
Here is Bonds taken within a couple of years, he’s a freaking juggernaut!
BJ Shea has a funny t-shirt on the KISW site for sale to embody what Bonds has achieved.
