Today marks the final day of tournament play on the ATP Tour and it took the final day to lock down all eight spots and the alternate spot for the year-end championship Masters Cup in Shanghai. Due to his amazing play for the Masters Series Madrid and Masters Series Paris, David Nalbandian earned the ninth spot on the list and will go to the Masters Cup. He will only play if someone gets injured but it’s a trip of a lifetime. Who wouldn’t want to get paid over $50,000 USD just to show up and watch the best tennis players on earth compete for a $1.5 million dollar prize?

Terracotta Warriors
The ATP Tour approved of a project to sculpt Terracotta Warriors from the best eight tennis players in the world to mark the Tennis Masters Cup, the prestigious circuit ending championship held in Shanghai, China. It takes a lot of time for the sculptor to make the sculptures so measurements were done back in August to ensure completion by November. Also in August, you don’t know who will end up in the top eight so they had to conduct measurements for the top 15 or so players.

Preview of Masters Cup
Unlike previous years where there was always one so-called “clay-court” specialist in the field who lost every round robin match, this year’s field has good all-around players who can excel on the fast indoor surface. Players like Robredo, Moya, and Coria in the past really ruined the competition because they would weaken their grouping. Roger Federer will obviously be the favourite to defend his Masters Cup title from last year Djokovic will be a close second to win his first Masters Cup. I really don’t see Nadal getting to the finals because he’s got 2 bum knees and he’s not as feared by the players as he once was.
