Flipping burgers at a fast food joint will make you around $16,000 a year in Canada.
Steve Nash is from Canada and he makes over $15 million US a year. Is his job a hundred times more important than the burger flipper? Some CEOs have made $160 million a year from their jobs so are they a thousand times more important as the burger flipper and ten times more important than Steve Nash? The satisfaction that fast-food workers give to society’s obese and hurried citizens can arguably be intrinsically worth more value than Steve Nash who entertains people. The fact of the matter is that people are worth what they are paid because they knowingly accept their compensation.
Market Value is the Name of the Game
Wilt Chamberlain is one of the best basketball players in the history of the game but what he earned pales in comparison with what the top 50 NBA players earn today. Market conditions and market value are the key in salaries, wages, and compensation. If you are able to convince your boss that you are worth more money and they agree, then you deserve the raise. If you still believe you are worth more than what you are paid, then you should go out and find another job that pays you that amount. I used to work part-time at a financial institution as a bank teller and the pay wasn’t that great. It was around double the minimum wage at the time which is decent coin if you are still in university. When I found out that bank tellers who work at credit unions make 2.5 times the minimum wage and received benefits, I quickly made the switch because I believed that I was worth at least that amount.
Only You Can Make the Change
The majority of people do not like change and get comfortable at their current job. They wished their salary was higher but they do not actively pursue the various options needed to boost their earnings. Instead of climbing the corporate ladder, pursuing further education, or looking for another job, they only sit on their lazy aces and complain. This complaining is done until the cows come home which is very ironic. Whining and complaining takes energy and this energy can be better directed at working more efficiently. If you feel like you deserve more than minimum wage as a sandwich artist, then demand a raise or jump ship to another fast food establishment. If you think there’s no future in fast food, then take some courses and change careers!
What have you done today, this month, or this year to further advance your career?!
